entry for "Be Afraid 2007 Stock and Resource Contest of DOOM"

Something scary, something macabre and yet surreal.
There's no title to this one, because I feel a title would not suit this piece very well. I've spent hours and days on this particular work, and I am very pleased with the results. I also want you,the viewer,to interprete this work as you see fit; whether it be nightmareish or monstrous DOOM..whatever you see is what you see.

The most prominent stock is the eye, something I worked on to appear more real than just copy & pasted. The texture I used is merely for depth purposes to give the eye the feeling its alive and part of another world.

I hope you enjoy this work, as much as I enjoyed creating it :)

Happy Halloween :pumpkin:

as to fixing the unfinished quality... just center the eye in the image... Simple as that... Crop the sucker just above the discolored rift at the top of the pic.

This is, again, making me feel self conscious about my own entry into this contest, lol. but I like this a hell of a lot.

Hey mate!
First of all this image is really creepy in the surreal way. And I do like this impression. But after a while another feeling came to me that the composition might be too minimalistic. I think that it lacks some other object somwhere in the top however I cant say exactly where and what sort of an object.
The details and blending are very nice. Reflection is realistic so are the shadows. On the other hand I dont understand why have you added this blur as for me it adds some unimportant dynamism. I would keep it static.
I like the colouring and use of textures. I find it skillful.
About the idea: I've read recently that by creating horror-like image artist expresses his own fears. That might shed some light on it. However I would stick to the first impression's idea of looking in the two directions at the same time.

for days on days, i would add something in the top half.. nothing seemed to work, so i decided to go minimalistic. maybe would leave room for more mystery.
the blur is unmistakenly impossible to fix. *hint, hint*

ok, let's see now...first of all, you achieved your goal with the level of creepiness :fear: that'll keep me from sleeping like ca baby tonight:no: i like how you created a scary image without using the often applied "blood ,more blood!!" effect. i also like the tones, and how the eye looks. it makes me think of a snake for some reason:O
however, the image looks somewhat ...unfinished to me. i think it may be the composition. if you're bored and willing to give it a try, place the eye horizontally and add something "in front" of it to make it look like it's watching that object. or maybe just darken the upper side more ^^; that might work too.
another thing that kinda bothers the eye (my eye :bucktooth:) is the lower half where the texture seems to be.. moving, blurred. maybe you wanted it like that, but it seems a bit distracting... you could try to make it look "still", see if it works better :)
one more little thing to mention.. on the right side of the eye, there's some sort of line with lashes... i think it looks a bit out of place, like you forgot to erase it after cutting it from its original pic :worry: and if it's supposed to be there, with those lashes, try turning it the other way, it might look more natural (if that word can be used for this image:O)
all in all, an original idea i'd say that looks pretty good, but could use some more work.
good luck with the contest! :fingerscrossed:

P.S. - i don't mind if you hide the comment :bucktooth:

i'm not hiding this comment. this is the best detailed critique/comment anyone has ever written to me.

the lines in the image represent its scars, torn and evil. i chose vertical because i wanted the viewer to be attracted to the eye, like an opening into another world. the blur is part of the creepiness, how the viewer perceives evil is sometimes blurred, like something moving fast.
..and don't be confused by the glare of the eye, it could just very well be watching you when you sleep! :evillaugh:

put all that aside for a moment. i also want the viewer to interpret this piece in their own way, what they see as a nightmare or monstrous; Is the purpose of this work.

thank you  for the wishes!
happy halloween!

:phew: i'm still alive :lmao: i just wrote what i thought could be improved. but i think i forgot to tell you what this image makes me think of. and it makes me think of Big Brother :| and the idea of someone watching every move you make, everything you say and think is really scary :|

as for halloween, i don't really celebrate it  but happy halloween to you too :giggle: see you in #MR:hug:
